Recalling America’s two great eras of supreme domestic struggle: the 1860s and the 1960s. Too many people regard them as mutually exclusive. Here, month by month, we will observe their sesquicentennial and semi-centennial, paying tribute to the interconnected sacrifices of each. We will briefly remember moments of each month of both eras, revisiting some that stained our history and some we should forever cherish, from Shiloh and Gettysburg to Birmingham and Selma.
